Not directly related to PC issues, but
the Pittsburgh
Supercomputer Center (PSC) is losing its federal funding. It was somewhat expected, and it
happened. The National Science Board voted to end the 11-year funding of the PSC, and the
supercomputer center at Cornell in Ithaca, NY. That leaves just two supercomputer centers:
San Diego, CA and Urbana-Champaign, IL. The PSC will receive $11M over the next two years
from the NSF to phase out its operations. Its current budget is approximately $15M a year.
About 100 folks at the PSC---right next door to us at CMU/SEI--- will be affected by this. |
